Alzheimers

More light is put on how the disease starts.

Apparently 5% accounts for genetic propensity

Stroke, heart attack, arteries blockages could start the rest and one I did not hear before is lack of oxygen.

In a sense stroke, heart attack, arteries blockages all restrict oxygen flow, but until now it wasn’t connected that any prolonged oxygen shortage can trigger the disease.

Some experiment carried out on mice, proved that there is definite link, and oxygen starved mice for about a month, developed symptoms.

If taken up by Mount Everest climbers seriously, this alone might stop the mountain area pollution with hundreds of spent oxygen bottles.

If not, they might in future assist in disease study.

Diminished taste and smell ability is very early indication of dementia setting in.

Medication for blood pressure and anti-cholesterol tablets reduce ability to smell and taste.

Well, kind of trigger.

You can get yourself tested whether your have the Alzheimers.

The reason why I mention this is that I host an alzheimers website
on my webserver along side ascii-data.com

If you have a query about alzheimers visit:

http://www.alzheimers.com.au

and they can help you out.

If in doubt ask for Athena Paton who is my mum and a researcher there but don't say that you where referred by catfish as she won't know what you are talking about but say davo and you should be ok.

They are a good bunch of people and also highly approachable.

cheers

I was on my way to reduce caffeine intake as it was supposed to be carcinogenic when I came past info on preliminary results that caffeine prevents onset of Alzheimers, what’s more, it will slow down the progress of the disease.

Dosage seems to be “astronomical” about 500 mg per day, which in effect will mean for me to triple my pre-reduction levels.

But things we do to stay healthy :D

New Scientist in 24 July 2010 issue talks about Alzheimers.

Plaque seems to be part of disease, but not cause.

They talk about “Amyloid Beta” that is produced in our body all our life and suspicion is that
trauma to brain like chronic infection, head injury of stroke can cause amyloid overproduction and cause Alzheimers.

Looks like in 10 maybe 20 years there will be more answers to this disease, maybe even cure or at least effective way to slow it down.
