Important announcement

thanks sheep_pimp,that is what I was looking for.If needs be it may have to be a pay site, though that does not mean the content would change to suit new hoped for guidelines.
We seem to be entering a new age of cencorship, and petty little laws, designed to protect everybody from everything and anything.
Incredible Charts used to have a trading diary emailed out daily to give an understanding of their charts.Under the new regulations they had to pull the
plug on that as it could be taken as trading advice.

turtles,

I suggest you start a VCR fan club. At least it is for fans only as anything less than complementary is not tolerated.

turtles

I suggested we ban VCR posts as for some unknown reason it brings the worst out in people - including you - -wouldn't you agree?

Cheers Anne

it has nothing to do with the company

it happens on all chat sites (VCR is just popular here)

you always get a few people that try and stir things up

it is annoying to have to read through garbage (and it tends to appear on a almost daily basis)

and surely the fact that they closed the site down for a while suggest even the admin agree

however something good should come of all this - as actions should be taken to stop this happening.

Just say i went around stiring up all threads what would you do shut them all down or boot me out?

the answer is obvious

cheers

Stop this silly talk about banning individual stocks because of the controversy they generate. It's akin to banning cars because they cause speeding...
People are, and always will be, the problem.
Let's have our forum back and dump the rampers and denigrators.

turtles,

In a forum like SG, it is important that users are able to handle the information flow with maturity and to apply judgement on opinions expressed. If it leads to personal attacks and threats, it is a reflection that the situation has become unhealthy and hence the suggestion to ban a particular topic and I would second that. There are 1,600 plus stocks that are listed on the ASX. It is very strange that there are so much effort expended on a particular stock (resulting in consequent reaction) that it may be better serve to start a fan club instead.

Just a small note of thanks to the Forum Admin too.

As a relatively new user I've found this a great site with some wonderful information, and generally, a good bunch of contributors.

It would be a real shame to lose it.

Hang in there I hope you find a way around this 'problem'.

It would be a shame to ban anyone/any topic and counter productive to boot

There will always be some to & fro on various topics and the argy bargy b/w combatants is normal-we all see things differently

Relax, and if you don't like it, turn it off, or just give that topic a miss & have your say about something else

Simple really

Banning people and banning stocks is not the answer.Having closed the site down and suggested that it will re-open soon has given all concerned time to reflect on their positions.I suggest that a suitable warning prior to re-opening the site, that any repeat of the offences will then result in a ban on that individual being imposed.I detest the" stirring''that has taken place with VCR posts. If we see the problem raise its head in the future then by all means ban those invoved.

ANOUNCEMENTS REGARDING FUTURE POSTS ON FORUM

Postby gatekeeper » Tue May 18, 2004 3:14 pm

The controversial debate on various VCR threads has been time consuming for administrators of this site .
All previous VCR posts have been deleted , and the matter of a permanent ban on future posts on topic was seriously considered, as was the banning of members involved.

In future, any posts on VCR or any other company or topic, that blatantly breach the Code of Conduct ,will be deleted in their entirety and the author may be denied access to our forum.

The number of posts that have required editing or deletion in full , on other than VCR is very minimal and thankfully the great majority of forum members have respected the code of conduct.
Thank you for this.

A single thread on VCR will be permitted for the time being , under the Stocks Based on ASX Code section of forum, and this decision will be reviewed daily.

The minimum Code of conduct we expect members to meet, on VCR and other threads include
. No offensive language or personal abuse , regardless of reason
. No unsupported comments, which appear to be purely to influence share price , either up or down.
. No breach of copyright , nor copies of statements from other sites ( a link to site is acceptable)
. No financial advice, unless a licensed Financial advisor
. No post that violates any law.

Please note that whilst no members have been banned from posting, an immediate ban will be placed on those members who abuse the code of conduct in future.

Hopefully we can all enjoy visiting the site in future.

I've been asleep. I have only just discovered this "controversy", well after the fracas. (never owned VCaaaarrrgghhh)

1. SharesGuru is a good site, but getting a bit tired.

2. It is morphing with the influx of new contributors. It isn't whether egoli or the 'early days' were better, they just were ... different. And many of us knew less then.

It is a bit hard reinventing the wheel every month or so, and the whole show is a bit unwiedy. How often do threads meander and go off on tangents. Yet, often these tangents are where the nuggets are to be found, if I may mix my metaphors. And I experience some chagrin when I stumble upon them, too late.

So. PLEASE, CONTRIBUTORS, KEEP TO THE RULES. Search for threads, don't throw up new threads when there are old ones. But do start new ones if the original purpose gets outa control.

Ultimately I give 90% endorsement for the site, and 10% lies in indifference for some of the content.

And, a big thanks to SG admin and everyone who cares, thinks, helps out, posts,

(a busy and non-quantifying) Benthonic

Pitty about all the legal talk. Why arn't the messages sensored by a 24 hour delay. This would stop all the c--p that is going on at the moment.
Sensorship yes!!!! However I get great enjoyment from reading comments & tips on this site, just as thousands of others do. I for one will be looking at Hot Copper & sharetrader.co.nz to keep an eye on VCR.
For the sake of these people keep your eye on the ball keeper and stay at the crease.
