Indeed, so true.

The closest cleanest female voice to someone like Eva C that I have heard in Australia is Kate Fagan, and if you can ever catch her performing, solo or with the family band, do so! She has had time out 'for the new family' for most of 2010 and hence the allure of the road, the circuit may be less appealing, but ... do y'self a favour, if e're the chance comes

Recenty heard, an acquired taste admittedly, is The Ellis Collective. Again, need to be in the right mood, and with a good sound system, but they are very good, original, etc etc. They play the roots and folk circuit, if such a thing exists. Definitely no mosh pit.

And for pure whimsical fun, Dan Kelly puts on a good show

Straight from the Polo game to a drum kit. Ginger Baker and son Kofi in a Drum Duet. Not to everyone's taste but by heck they are good.

While browsing YouTube for some stuff on Hank Williams - don't ask why, I just do that sort of thing sometimes - I stumbled across this character. A rather wonderful version in my view. And Seasick Steve is an interesting person in his own right. Apparently he was in Australia a couple of years ago. Wish I had known that as, circumstances permitting, I would have made an effort to go and see his show.

Sorry for the edit. As usual a correction of a spullen error.

Hi Judd,
Got an Ipod for Christmas and still trying to work out how to use all of its programs. Started on podcasts and found a site http://loriza.com/?q=movies/big-band-times-humphrey-otr
with all old time radio. Showing my age!!!!
Has a program about 30 minuites of Hank Williams. Yeeha !
Not sure whether you can download it through Windows Media player if you don't have Apple.

Thanks for the link Chiller.

Regarding iPod, see my comments here:

Apparently all iPods are shipped pre-formatted to Macintosh.

Currently at the National Folk Festival in Canberra (hope you were able to get along Mr B) but is also touring later this year. Hopefully, I will be in a position to be able to attend one of her shows.

apropos to "the National Folk Festival in Canberra ", the local community radio station ArtSound is the official recorder of NFF performances at said Easter break and has been for several years, and has a good program on Saturday nights of performances from years past - Live from the National

can catch it livestreamed on http://www.artsound.fm

NFF now has 20 stages/ locations and pulls in 60,000 paying punters over the 4 days. Getting expensive though.

Also IMHO the whole scene is 'too streamlined' - with a festival for your niche taste. Seems festivals are the go and one-off shows on the circuit, a different town each night, and into the van for the long drive to next one, are dying out, or at least less profitable. One can choose from a plethora, according to your demographic (this weekend, mein kinder are at ReGen out of Braidwood which is pretty feral). And the whole attendant food, drink, paraphernalia, Tshirts and beer mug STUFF that goes with it.

thanks for the info Judd. UTube is a good way to get a 'taste'

a most sublime night at Milton theatre - all of 160 capacity - for Tony Joe White last Saturday.

just TJW and drummer (a metronome of a man), and essentially one has to be there to hear it :- one man producing, with some but limited special effects, the full bass line, rhythm and lead on guitar - usually at same time - PLUS a voice that makes John Laws look like a castrato.

and he would get my award for "best use of wah-wah pedal" during a guitar break for 2011.

As they say, do yourself a favour.

Bill Cuncliffe came to town. extraordinary show, such fluidity. And the impromptu blend of Summertime, Michael Jackson and Rachmaninov was superb. The music teacher seated next to me stated he was going to quit

And a plug for an artiste doing a tour in September Fred Smith has, after an 18 month secondment in Afghanistan, released an album "Dust of Uruzgan". Tour is to follow. Check it out. Highly recommended. The title track is a 7 minute tour de force that is heartfelt and evocative

Just come to my attention. Fiona Boyse is touring. She would have to be the best slide guitarists Australia has produced.
