NEW 24 Inch Computer Screen

NEW 24 Inch Computer Screen

Postby cungevoi » Fri Nov 23, 2007 6:11 am

Hi Has anyone bought and tried a 24 inch computer screen with the ability to split the screen to view screens from two different applications. Has anyone seen a writeup in a computer magazine on the 24 inch unit, which covers operation of the split screen. Cheers

Well, well cungevoi, so that's what you want for Christmas.....
On a more practical note, have you considered a 24" iMac, superb screen, (running Leopard) with a PC Laptop, side by side on your desk?

The naked trader
Image
One of Auguste Rodin's most famous sculptures, initially named The Poet, was intended to represent Dante himself
reflecting on a scene below. We can speculate that Rodin thought of the figure in broader terms. The Thinker is
depicted as a man in sober meditation battling with a powerful internal struggle. (maybe a constipated bowel
movement). The unique pose with hand to the chin, right elbow to the left knee, allows the statue to consider
the trade with a contemplative feel.

This is where I want to be. Regardless of screen size. I require my computer, by next Christmas, to read my mind and
act accordingly to my mind's eye.

Sorry, not too sure I understand what you mean by 'split screen' - eek !! isn't that a bit like windows offering different
views of different scenes in different window panes OR various views of the same scene in different panes, maybe there
is an idea here for windows vista ! (coz a leopard never changes its spots)

Hi Suzy, thanks a  million,( just joking ), however as I am still bogged down converting Old Dos programs ( just one to go ), to work under XP Windows using Visual Basic ( an already outdated software ), I would not like to have to re-convert again for an IMAC.

Hi Mutt The blurb I grabbed was about ACER AL2416WD 24" Wide LCD Monitor; and one particular point was:-
Enhance your workflow with the ACER by placing windows "side by side" reducing the need to toggle between applications.
So Yes it would be just two window panes on the one screen. Not sure where I got the "SPLIT SCREEN" from and was probably the added info of the retailer.

I am still striving towards your concept:
This is where I want to be. Regardless of screen size. I require my computer, by next Christmas, to read my mind and
act accordingly to my mind's eye.

You may have noticed my screens are a little too colourful, ( much to the disgust of the purist ), however the mind is capable of seeing things in the blink of an eye, especially with colour, and the distraction of toggling between one application package ( CHARTING ), to a second application ( Composite F/A - T/A Display ) breaks that essential concentration. Having them both visible together without being overly scrunched would be an advantage. From that immediate sense it becomes easy to make a BUY, Skip or Sell decision.

My query was to find out if anyone had bought a unit like this and found out the inevitable problems that are sometimes hidden and only exposed after the act of attempting to install and use.

The colour combination for both OXR ( One Day reversal ) and SUN ( duplicated HH - LL sequence with greater than 50% vol change) over the last three or four days was immediately compelling. Now all I have to do is computerise the automatic BUY orders.

Loved the Bronze. Cheers

Hi,

What screen size are you using now? You should be able to perform the function described (two windows open, but resized next to each other) in the marketing blurb right now, albeit with less desktop real estate. Do you have a computer store nearby? Perhaps a trip to one and playing around with a 24 inch screen would provide some indication of two windows/applications running side-by-side.

With regard to the actual monitor itself, I always check out whirlpool.net.au for computer knowledge. Specifically, check out the hardware forum at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-threads.cfm?f=7. A quick search on the monitor model will surely return some results and information (search capability at the bottom of the window).

For a good price on this piece of hardware, also try staticice.com.au (again enter model number and voila).

This is always my two step computer hardware/software purchasing process - check out what the wider community says at whirlpool and then check out the cheapest price at staticice.

Cheers. F.

Hi FUECO, thanks for guidance, but this week have been busy on other things. Will work through the information and come up with a solution. Wish I had bought a few OXR to further finance my plans. A BUY signal  for OXR OXIANA on my chart and a Volume of 92 million shares  yesterday was quite a move, so one might imagine something must be in the wings. Cheers.

Hmm, here is one version of this current trend;

http://www.acer.co.th/product/travelmate/AcerGridVista.htm

with larger & larger screens a few grfx cards are offering auto arrange grids or split screens.
Not my preference to fit many onto one, i'm greedy and prefer as much screen estate as possible

As a feature, i reckon its a fad.
You might use it, but don't get used to it.

I think you can have more than one screen on a single computer. Some share traders have several screens so they can see several markets at once. The number of screens is a setting in the Windows display.

You would need to do some research on how it is done, but it may solve your problem quite cheaply just to add a second monitor.

Are there any members out there who know more about this?

Cheers

Thanks Lainie will take a further look at this when time permits. I have only just resolved ( took about 12 months ), the printing of a QBASIC program from dos LPT1 to A USB printer, via software from BHAKTEE Software called DOS2USB, and have now resolved any outstanding problems, mainly related to missing spaces and minus signs and this has now saved me re- writing a 3000 line qbasic program in Visual Basic.
So it will take me some time to work out the best solution to a 24 inch wide screen or dual independant screens of which the latter will require on my computer buying another screen card or possibly an adaptor. However it is always helpful if someone has already been thru the same actual process and found the shortcomings or problems. Anyway gives me something to ponder. Cheers.

Added Wednesday 12/12/07. Hi Fueco, I took up your suggestion when I stumbled accross an IT WAREHOUSE at Kawana this morning and they demonstrated the 24 inch screen with two and three different applications, looked very good and very clear, so will be delving further. Decisions, Decisions when I should be out surfing. Cheers .

Cunge...how did you go with this? I'm interested in getting a big widescreen to run several active windows as well. If you ended up getting one, fill us in how it went...

Cheers

Not sure if it was age or the weather but had to replace two TV sets and an air conditioning unit and consequently the hobby was put on hold. With the price of 19 inch computer screens now so low ( $244 is lowest I have seen), I think I will go the path of two separate screens instead of the one 24 inch screen. Cheers
