Upcoming Floats and closing dates

QR National

Postby muhaha » Thu Sep 23, 2010 8:59 pm

After being bombarded with adverts on tellie and on various websites i think i will wait for this to float before doing anything. See no point in preregistering i think theres plenty of stock to go around , plus if the big miners have shunned it then why should the mums and dads bother. But then again some  did take up the Myers script ..........

Be careful you have not fallen into the tactical trap set by the BIG MINERS, after all they wanted it, they continued to want it for about $4 billion, and near to finalisation they decided they were not at all interested. This antic, as you have already mentioned in your post, by the Big Miners has put you off from pre-registering, and similarly others as well. Now this could make the public float appear to be well undersubscribed if everyone acts similarly. The float will be pulled and or deferred; and lo and behold the Big Miners will gallop in to save the day; but now at another billion less than they originally thought it was worth. So give the B. Ms a real fright and preregister. You don't have to take it up once you see the final figures. But whatever you do, don't let the B.Ms, outsmart you.

pre registry costs nothing, and is in effect a free short dated non-tradable option.

i pressed a few buttons, and pre registered under more than one legal registration.

no obligation, now just sit and wait.

, good point Cunge , but when was the last time a large float advertised so hard , priced correctly so that the little guy makes some money on the float. i see no point in getting in on the float

Prospectus will be out on 10 Oct so we don't know (and most don't read it, especialy the back pages) what is on offer. Until then, and especially as it is a big float pushing $4 point something billion, the lead managers and every ticket clipper will be running hard selling the thing.

HB is right about pre-enrolment - no obligation, little to lose. (If a million others thought the same way it may edge up the offer price, or bidding process, but ultimately it is the fund managers in NY, Tokyo and Europe that will decide its success)

Plusses to date

- Steady business, some growth (line of credit for expansion, plus coal volume growth)
- predictable revenue stream
- seller wants to move it off the books
- QR margins are about half Asciano's, so improvement possible
- has been seen to be lifting their game of late. (on time and coping with the volumes)
- verically integrated: owns 2300km of rail, plus locomotives and engines that run on the tracks

Minuses to date

- its COAL. Bob Brown says "naughty naughty"
- unionised workforce, resistant to change
- don't like turn-around stories. Sometimes they don't/ can't
- passenger and other services are an anomoly/ open to political pressure
- high AUDollar may make overseas investors cautious

So it will all come down to price. Some Qld govt desperation may see realistic pricing (wanting to keep S&P rating), and there are few other options.

I have done my QR preregistering for coupe of times with differnt email address, It is going to be handy if i feel I like it.

Everything comes down to the price. Currently, I don't feel like to pay P/E > 10.

to apply for shares in different holdings through the prospectus, you usually need seperate tax file numbers,or individual abn numbers.

can pick up multiple shareholdings through any names - TFNs not needed at application.

Mr J Bloggs, Joe Bloggs, Joseph Bloggs and even Joe Murgatroyd Bloggs, can all apply for separate holdings, plus spouse, plus children, plus the Joe Bloggs Super Fund, as long as the aforementioned have a TFN.

Just go through the QNR website, and send off appliation via prospectus. These will then be Issuer Sponsored

But why would you want to? There will be no shortage of scrip, any scaleback will in all likelihood have a lower limit (first $20K then scaled sort of thing).

If going through a broker, then single application will be Chess sponsored, there will be a greater likelihood of guaranteed allocation. (Broker gets a 1% commission - paid by QNR)

Quite messy process to amalgamate holdings later on.

----------------
that's my take. Trying to get interest high to get price high, and enhance return to Qld Govt. I may be completely missing the mark, but this is going to be a hard sell, and there will be plenty of shares around for those wanting to punt. Wouldn't expect a 'stag' profit of any significance though.

the only consideration is the 'headology'

will the qld government want to burn voters with an overpriced issue ,and have them carry the memory into the voting booth?.

on the other hand, if they give too much away,it will be giving free ammunition as a 'bad manager' to the opposition for the campaign.

the discount for individual holders compared to institutional holders will be a point of interest, in the old days this was worth a few % arbitrage, who knows these days.

i am not keen, but waiting for the 'pitch' from full service brokers offering to help fill out the forms to get their sweetener, that will be an indication of something.

did i hear of a 'loyalty bonus issue' that would be politically astute, slow churn, and have voters get a little 'freebie' closer to voting.

INVESTORS will pay between $2.50 and $3.00 for shares in the Queensland government's selldown of its QR National Rail operation, whose offer document was released in Brisbane this morning.

The issue, which values the company at between $6.6 billion and $7.8 billion including $500 million of debt, will see 2.4 billion shares listed on the ASX on November 22.

Individual investors, who are a clear target of the float - although institutions are expected to buy the lion's share - will not have to pay more than $2.80 per share and will get a 10 cent discount on the final bookbuild price, to be announced just before listing day.

And how could they not play the parochial card, Queenslanders holding for the loyalty period will get get 1 new share for every 15 held, residents of other states will receive 1 new share for every 20 held from the float
